9 Weeks

9 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +1.0 lbs from starting weight (106.0)

Symptoms: very tired, having trouble sleeping, sore boobs, nausea and lots of throwing up

How I am Feeling: it changes every hour, major ups and downs this week

Best Thing about Pregnancy: eating whatever I want.

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: people have started to notice that my stomach is getting bigger.

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: Dan and I are finally telling our families this weekend! Yea!

I bought my first maternity clothes today. And a bigger bra. I’m a size D now, that’s nuts! The fact that I really haven’t gained any weight is totally misleading. My stomach and boobs are much bigger. I’ve probably lost muscle mass from being sick and not exercising.

Week 9: Green Olive
Your little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Adding to the excitement, a Doppler ultrasound device might be able to pick up the beating heart. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like... well... a baby!

8 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +2.2 lbs from starting weight (107.2)

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, back aches

How I am Feeling: excited

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Being able to quit work within 7 more months

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: I have been feeling very sick at work lately. I haven’t had to throw up at work, but I think I am noticeably tired.

I cannot believe that I am entering month 3. Time is flying by. I am really getting excited about the pregnancy. I tried not to get excited too early on, but I can’t help it anymore. It’s too real.

Week 8: Raspberry
Your baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though you can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.

7 weeks pregnant

7 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +0.6 lbs from starting weight (105.6)

Symptoms: Morning sickness, bloated belly, constipation, crazy hormonal

How I am Feeling: Sick and fat

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Dan has been so wonderful and sweet

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: I have been so crazy lately. I have had weird, violent dreams and been really mean to Dan.

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: I should have an appointment with my new doctor scheduled soon. I probably won’t see the doctor this week, but it will be nice to have the appointment planned. I can’t wait to see or hear the baby’s heartbeat.

We told Jen about the pregnancy last night. She was so excited for us and we are glad to have each other to talk to about all the gross stuff. The same day that I found out that I was pregnant, she called Dan to tell him that she is pregnant. She’s about 7 weeks ahead of me.

Week 7: Blueberry
Baby's brain -- both hemispheres! -- is growing fast, generating about 100 new cells every minute. Arms and legs are emerging as joints start to form, and a permanent set of kidneys (baby's third!) is now in place.

I couldn't do this alone

First of all, don't read this if you are eating or plan on eating anytime soon. In order to explain how amazing Dan is, I have to tell a graphic story.

Last night (6 weeks, 4 days pregnant) I was brushing my teeth to get ready for bed and got very sick very fast. I knew I didn't have time to move to the toilet, so I threw up in the sink. Oh, it gets worse. I had just had a big bowl of beef stew for dinner. I made it to the toilet for round 2 (and 3 and 4 and 5). Dan left his video game right away to check on me. I sat on the floor while Dan cleaned out and unclogged the sink and was totally amazed by him.

Dan cleaned my puke out of the sink and never complained once or said a single negative thing. And that is love like most people will never know.

6 Weeks Pregnant

6 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +1.0 lbs from starting weight (106.0)

Symptoms: Throwing up in the morning, general exhaustion, my acne is clearing up a little but still pretty bad

How I am Feeling: Tired and sick

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Telling Nicole

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: Not telling my family yet

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: Sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday

After feeling so bad for the last two days, I decided that I needed someone to talk to. We thought seriously about telling my family, but know that it would get out if we did. We decided to tell Nicole, Dan’s sister who lives in California. She has 4 children of her own, including an 8 month old. She was so excited for us and recounted the difficult time for her that I am just now beginning.

My pants officially do not fit anymore. I had my buttons undone all day today. It’s bloat more than a pregnancy belly, but it’s uncomfortable. I am excited for having a cute little belly during the summer. I love a cute pregnant belly in a bikini.

Week 6: Sweet Pea
This week the baby is the size of a sweet pea. Growing like crazy, baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate.

BIG Milestone

At 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant, I threw up for the first time this morning. I bet you wanted to know that, huh? My hurling woke Dan up. He was sympathetic, but not sympathetic enough to get out of bed.

Later...
Julia: I want to see how big my baby is.
Dan: Our baby.
Julia: My baby. How do you know it's yours?
Dan: Aw, Julia.
Julia: Well, I know it's mine. How do you know it's yours?
Dan: If the baby comes out black or Chinese, we're going to have problems.

5 Weeks Pregnant

5 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +/- 0 lbs from starting weight (105)

Symptoms: More cramps- off and on, sometimes pretty painful- tired, a little nauseous

How I am Feeling: Tired, very, very tired

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Dan has been really helpful since I started working. I am really tired when I get home and usually he gets home before me.

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: I am so tired.

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: I still haven’t gotten the test results back. I had some delays with the lab work.

Jen Christopher called us the same day that I found out that I am pregnant to let us know that she is pregnant, too. We decided that it would be nice to tell her early so that we can talk about pregnancy together. We will wait for my lab results, just to be safe. Jen and I talked often when we were planning on getting married in the same month. Now it looks like she will have her first child about 2 months before we have ours.

Week 5: Appleseed

Your embryo (looking kind of like a tadpole) is starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby's presence in your uterus triggers production of hCG (the hormone detected by pregnancy tests)... which triggers production of other hormones like estrogen and progesterone... which trigger all those great symptoms you've probably been noticing!
