I couldn't do this alone

First of all, don't read this if you are eating or plan on eating anytime soon. In order to explain how amazing Dan is, I have to tell a graphic story.

Last night (6 weeks, 4 days pregnant) I was brushing my teeth to get ready for bed and got very sick very fast. I knew I didn't have time to move to the toilet, so I threw up in the sink. Oh, it gets worse. I had just had a big bowl of beef stew for dinner. I made it to the toilet for round 2 (and 3 and 4 and 5). Dan left his video game right away to check on me. I sat on the floor while Dan cleaned out and unclogged the sink and was totally amazed by him.

Dan cleaned my puke out of the sink and never complained once or said a single negative thing. And that is love like most people will never know.

6 Weeks Pregnant

6 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +1.0 lbs from starting weight (106.0)

Symptoms: Throwing up in the morning, general exhaustion, my acne is clearing up a little but still pretty bad

How I am Feeling: Tired and sick

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Telling Nicole

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: Not telling my family yet

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: Sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday

After feeling so bad for the last two days, I decided that I needed someone to talk to. We thought seriously about telling my family, but know that it would get out if we did. We decided to tell Nicole, Dan’s sister who lives in California. She has 4 children of her own, including an 8 month old. She was so excited for us and recounted the difficult time for her that I am just now beginning.

My pants officially do not fit anymore. I had my buttons undone all day today. It’s bloat more than a pregnancy belly, but it’s uncomfortable. I am excited for having a cute little belly during the summer. I love a cute pregnant belly in a bikini.

Week 6: Sweet Pea
This week the baby is the size of a sweet pea. Growing like crazy, baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate.

BIG Milestone

At 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant, I threw up for the first time this morning. I bet you wanted to know that, huh? My hurling woke Dan up. He was sympathetic, but not sympathetic enough to get out of bed.

Later...
Julia: I want to see how big my baby is.
Dan: Our baby.
Julia: My baby. How do you know it's yours?
Dan: Aw, Julia.
Julia: Well, I know it's mine. How do you know it's yours?
Dan: If the baby comes out black or Chinese, we're going to have problems.

5 Weeks Pregnant

5 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: +/- 0 lbs from starting weight (105)

Symptoms: More cramps- off and on, sometimes pretty painful- tired, a little nauseous

How I am Feeling: Tired, very, very tired

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Dan has been really helpful since I started working. I am really tired when I get home and usually he gets home before me.

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: I am so tired.

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: I still haven’t gotten the test results back. I had some delays with the lab work.

Jen Christopher called us the same day that I found out that I am pregnant to let us know that she is pregnant, too. We decided that it would be nice to tell her early so that we can talk about pregnancy together. We will wait for my lab results, just to be safe. Jen and I talked often when we were planning on getting married in the same month. Now it looks like she will have her first child about 2 months before we have ours.

Week 5: Appleseed

Your embryo (looking kind of like a tadpole) is starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby's presence in your uterus triggers production of hCG (the hormone detected by pregnancy tests)... which triggers production of other hormones like estrogen and progesterone... which trigger all those great symptoms you've probably been noticing!

Pregnancy Update Wednesday- 4 Weeks

4 Weeks Pregnant

Weight: Starting weight 105 lbs

Symptoms: Near constant, light cramps, trouble sleeping after about 5am, constantly tired, acne

How I am Feeling: Scared about starting a new job next week at 4.5 weeks pregnant.

Best Thing about Pregnancy: Telling Dan and seeing his excitement was one of the best feelings in the world.

Worst Thing about Pregnancy: I have had non-stop cramps since about a week before I even found out that I am pregnant.

What I am Looking Forward to this Week: Getting the test results from my first appointment and knowing that everything is okay.

I found out that I am pregnant on Sunday, Feb 21 around 6am. Dan was still asleep. I decided not to tell him until yesterday, his 32nd birthday. I bought him a camcorder for his birthday. The card said: This is for you to record all of the happy moments in the coming year and beyond. Love, Julia & Baby Vickery (due to join us on Nov 3, 2010).” He got to “Baby” and didn’t finish. After many exclamations, hugs and kisses, I showed him the home pregnancy tests. He was so surprised and so happy.

Our conversation this afternoon went something like this:

Dan- How's the baby doing?
Julia- Good. You see, there were only 3 pieces of pizza left and I ate two. I thought you would want me to have it, since I am carrying your child and all.
Dan- That's messed up.
Julia- It's fair. One piece for you, one for me and one for the baby.
