Painting

Liam had a bad day today. He was really grumpy. To try to make the day easier on both of us, I introduced a new project: painting. During Liam's nap, I taped a bit of white paper to the garage floor. Liam hates stuff on his hands, so I gave him a couple brushes to use.

The actual paining didn't last very long. He was much more interested in roaming the garage.

And, because we are a redneck family, I let him roam the neighborhood in nothing but his diaper and warpaint.

Finally, I set him on Dan's toolbox so that I could get a couple cute pictures of him all painted.

Of course, getting paint all over one's self calls for a bath.

Valentines Recap

Another holiday means new crafts for the picture wall in the entryway to our house. Both of these have been floating around Pinterest for a long time, but I do not have the pins saved and I didn't follow a particular tutorial.

Dan surprised me with a beautiful (and tall!) orchid. He put it on the kitchen counter. I must have been really hungry, because I didn't notice it until I had finished cooking my lunch. It is now living in the bathroom on the the ledge of my garden tub.

Liam was my little model for a fun Valentine's Day photo shoot.

This one is a little soft, but I had to include it because he looks so much like one of his cousins. I almost don't recognize Liam here.

This is the Valentine Liam sent to his Aunt Lacey.

Kisses! (He was actually howling. He doesn't know how to kiss yet. )

Dan and I got to go out to dinner at a local restaurant on the river. The weather was nice, so we ate outside on the dock. My entree was a little on the spicy side, but I gobbled up my lobster dip appetizer.

When we got back from dinner, I cooked dessert for me, Dan and my in-laws who had been watching Liam while we were out. I made molten lava cakes. I cooked them maybe a minute too long, but they were delicious with chocolate ice cream. I was so excited to eat them that I didn't get a picture. I'm sure I'll make them again.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Bathroom Makeover

As part of my 2012 goal to get my house painted, I spent a couple weekend in January redecorating the hall bathroom. It's one of those rooms that had never been painted and was looking builder-basic-blah when I started.

I have a toddler that likes to unroll toilet paper, hence the toilet paper on the counter.
I am really proud of this room. I did about 95% of the work by myself, including taking the tank off of the toilet and putting it back on. The only thing that Dan did was cutting the beadboard and trim with his table saw.

I love it. I thought that the aqua might be too bold, but the beadboard helps to tone it down enough. I still need to figure out storage over the toilet. I've got a few ideas in mind, but I haven't decided yet. I'm also planning on adding an orange chevron pattern to the bottom of the shower curtain. I've got the materials, I just need the time and will power to do it. I also might frame the mirror and refinish the light fixture in the future, but those are pretty low on my to do list.

Liam was a big help with this project. He has his own mini paint roller. He watched me nail the beadboard to the wall and now thinks he has to hit the wall with whatever he has in his hand when he goes into the bathroom. Monkey see, monkey do.

Liam loves sidewalk chalk

Spring has already sprung here in Florida. We've haven't needed long sleeves for several weeks now. Liam and I play outside at least twice a day, usually in the driveway and sidewalk. Along with coloring with crayons, Liam has also learned how to use sidewalk chalk. His favorite spot to color is the box covering the water lines.

He usually colors on his own face and my jeans, too.

For some reason he is particularly fond of the pink and blue chalks. Momma always gets the green one.
